The Elam School of Art was established and housed in the Library, until it moved to Rutland Street in 1915.

1896
Auckland Technical Institute was founded and opened in Rutland Street.

1897
22-29 June
Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria saw the biggest celebration in Auckland. Twenty Thousand people gathered in the Domain.

1898-99
The Mining and Industrial Exhibition took place. It was visited by 250,000 people and promoted local Manufacturing, mining and productive Industries.

1899
First Statue of Queen Victoria erected in New Zealand. It stands in Albert Park
